Interesting topic to talk about, right? In India, you must have seen Sadhu’s / Aghori’s / Babas / Indian Spiritual Men at temple’s or walking on the street’s mostly having long hair , long beard and Dreadlocks.
Now..
- Who are they❓
- Why do all of them have DREADLOCKS in common along with their respective Spiritual journeys❓
1️⃣Who are they?
Sadhu: A Sadhu is a Hindu holy man or someone who has left the worldly life to pursue spiritual goals. They often live in monasteries or travel, dedicating their lives to meditation, prayer, and religious study. Sadhus typically wear simple clothing and may have distinctive appearances, like long hair, beards, dreadlocks as symbols of their belief.
Aghori: Aghoris are practitioners in Hinduism known for practices that achieve spiritual enlightenment. Aghoris are recognized for their distinctive appearance, including Dreadlocks, and their willingness to engage in practices considered taboo by mainstream society.
Baba: In the Indian spiritual context, a Baba is a term used for a revered holy man or Guru ( mentor , spiritual teacher ) Babas are often seen sharing wisdom and guidance to their followers. They may lead religious or spiritual communities and are recognized for their wisdom, experience, and often unique personal practices. Again, known to have long hair, beard and Dreadlocks.
2️⃣Why do all of them have DREADLOCKS in common along with their respective Spiritual journeys?
Dreadlocks are – Knotted Hair / Merged Hair / Entangled Hair
There are 2 ways of Dreadlocks forming:
- Naturally formed Dreadlocks 2. Man-made Dreadlocks
🗿During the Stone Age, when surviving was the only mission. Grooming was something that was neglected. Dreadlocks have been a thing since then. An example of naturally formed Dreadlocks.
As simple as it is – When you do not groom yourself / if we do not comb our hair for a few days, there are Knots that form in our hair and those Knots are Dreadlocks literally. Again, an example of naturally formed Dreadlocks.
Man-made Dreadlocks are the ones we create for our Clients at the DreadLey Studio in Mumbai, as per the clients requirements.
DREADLOCKS are not at all Rocket Science, like the way it has been thought about by a few around the world.🙏🏻
Also, talking about Spiritual beliefs and Dreadlocks being connected: Dreadlocks have been a part of every Culture, believe it or not, like we mentioned in a layman’s terms – they are Knotted Hair.
Mainly..in India, Lord Shiva is known to have Dreadlocks and there are millions of people that worship him in India and around the world, from there on everyone in India was interested in the idea of Dreadlocks.
We have had so many Clients who have had a Dreadlocks makeover through us and their reference has been Lord Shiva’s Dreadlocks, so many have also done the Dreads Makeover before going for a Spiritual trip like Kedarnath Temple Yatra etc.
They believe in getting Dreadlocks done before they visit the spiritual and sacred place so they feel so much closer to God.
Dreadlocks is a carefree , raw and natural Hairstyle and has a very beautiful feeling, only someone who has it would know…and it goes well with the lifestyle that Sadhus, Aghori’s and Baba’s have decided to live. They feel their best self with Dreadlocks and they feel closer and deeper towards their Spiritual beliefs with having them.
This was a little insight about the DreadLey Knowledge that we wanted to share with you all.💌
It’s an interesting and beautiful world with so many things to learn about, right?
We hope you got some knowledge through this.
Have a good day! See you around!
